Turmeric is a product of Curcuma longa, a rhizomatous herbaceous perennial plant belonging to the ginger family Zingiberaceae, which is native to tropical South Asia. Turmeric — and especially its most active compound, curcumin — have many scientifically proven health benefits, such as the potential to improve heart health and prevent against Alzheimer's and cancer. It's a potent anti-inflammatory and antioxidant. It may also help improve symptoms of depression and arthritis.

Coriander, also known as dhaniya or dhania in Hindi, is an annual herb that is related to parsley, carrots, and celery. The plant itself may sometimes be referred to as cilantro (especially in America), though the seeds of the plant are known as coriander.

Coriander powder adds a fresh pop of flavor to many spice blends, including garam masala, curry powder and taco seasoning. But it is also a widely used spice for meat, vegetables, rice, tacos, burritos and even desserts. Here are some of my favorite recipes with ground coriander: Vegetable Biryani.

Chili powder is the dried, pulverized fruit of one or more varieties of chili pepper, sometimes with the addition of other spices. It is used as a spice to add pungency and flavor to culinary dishes.
